Who said owning original art was limited to the elite? Not according to InLiquid’s Executive Director, Rachel Zimmerman, who believes that everyone is a collector. Everything of sentimental value that is cataloged, stored, and creatively displayed, whether it be stamps, baseball cards, even bottle caps, is, after all, a collection.

InLiquid, one of Philadelphia’s long-standing advocates for local artists, has spent the past 20 years committed to making local artists’ work accessible to everyone, whether they’re seasoned collectors or have yet to begin. To celebrate its milestone 20th year, InLiquid launched “Everyone Is a Collector” presented by PNC Arts Alive, a year-long campaign engaging those experienced and new to art collecting to share their personal collections. It also includes a series of programming and video interviews featuring local collectors of all different ages and backgrounds.

On January 31 and February 1, 2020, InLiquid’s annual winter Benefit and Silent Auction will be held at the Crane Arts Icebox Project Space. The “Benefit Twenty-Twenty: Everyone Is a Collector” will feature original works by over 200 local artists as well as highlight Philadelphia’s best restaurants and businesses. This year is also the first time InLiquid is working with local interior designers to create home environments, further emphasizing that art can belong in anyone’s home because everyone is a collector.

The nonprofit organization produces over 40 exhibitions annually throughout Philadelphia and in select art fairs, including New York City’s Spring Break. They also present educational programming and year-round events across the city and promote local artists with an extensive online presence on the art-selling platform Artsy. InLiquid’s summer festival, Art for the Cash Poor, an outdoor arts and crafts fair where all art is under $199, is the perfect place to start a collection of your very own.
