Australian NASA astronaut Andy Thomas steers a passionate tribute to two South Australian brothers credited with pioneering domestic air travel. Although lauded in the field of aviation, Sir Ross Smith and Sir Keith Smith are apparently all but forgotten by their home country which, 100 years ago, rejoiced as they become the first to fly halfway around the world. Definitely one for World War II plane enthusiasts, but a cracking story for everyone else, too.

Series return ★★★½

Cosplay comes to Midsomer in this tongue-in-cheek season return of the indestructible whodunit. Little nods to the march of time (an Uber gag here, a Taser there, and a restrained use of the smartphone) keep the scene contemporary, and yet the sense that time stands still in this hamlet of homicidal maniacs pervades. The theme is a marvellous excuse for (almost) everyone to play dress-ups, making the task of dear DCI Barnaby (Neil Dudgeon) that much harder.

There’s a strong male presence on the most comfortable celebrity couch in London tonight. Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle stars Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson and Kevin Hart spruik the hotly anticipated follow-up to that action comedy flick. They’re joined for some top quality banter by Doctor Who‘s Jodie Whittaker (pictured). Next up, former One Direction singer Harry Styles and his fabulous hair will perform his latest single.
